Miss Jenny’s Old-Fashioned Lye Soap is made in the traditional manner of combining Lard and Lye water together to make high-quality soap. Lye water is spring water to which sodium hydroxide has been added. When you mix the lard and lye water together you are forcing a chemical reaction called saponification.

This means the lye and lard are chemically changing into soap and glycerin. This chemical reaction takes several days to complete. The ingredients, the temperature, and the environment in which the soap is made and cured are important factors in making the saponification process successful. When the chemical reaction is complete you are left with a beautiful bar of soap with the glycerin left in it.
